If your home is on regular cleaning, you need a full deep clean far less often than a home that is cleaned now and then. For many homes on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule, once or twice a year is plenty, and some homes can skip the full deep clean altogether by adding a few detail tasks to regular visits instead.
How often is right for you depends on three things: how often your regular visits happen, how hard the home is used, and what the regular checklist leaves out.
What Regular Visits Already Take Care Of
A standard visit covers the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and living areas room by room: counters, sinks, toilets, showers, appliance exteriors, the microwave, cabinet fronts, ceiling fans, furniture, baseboards, windowsills and floors. On a steady schedule those surfaces never get a chance to build up.
What regular visits leave out is a short list: blinds, sliding door tracks, the inside of the oven and fridge, cabinet interiors, doors, behind and under movable furniture, and steam cleaning tile floors. Those are the items a deep clean adds, and they are the reason you still need one from time to time.

A Starting Point by Schedule
- Weekly cleaning: the main rooms stay in good shape, so a full deep clean once a year is usually enough. Many weekly clients simply add the inside of the oven or fridge every so often.
- Bi-weekly cleaning: once or twice a year, often before the busy season or after the holidays.
- Monthly cleaning: more time passes between visits, so buildup has longer to form. Every few months, or rotating deep-clean items in as add-ons, keeps a monthly home from slipping.
- Seasonal or part-time homes: a deep clean before you return after months away, then regular visits while you’re in residence.
These are starting points, not rules. A home with kids, pets or heavy cooking may need a deep clean sooner; a lightly used condo may go longer.
Signals That It’s Time, Whatever the Calendar Says
- Blinds and ceiling vents look grey again soon after dusting
- Sliding door tracks feel gritty or stick
- The oven smokes or smells when you use it
- The fridge has spills on shelves and in the drawers
- Grout and shower corners look darker than they used to
- You are hosting, selling, or coming back after a long absence

The Alternative: Add Deep-Clean Items to Regular Visits
You don’t always need the whole deep clean at once. If only one or two things have built up, add them to a regular visit as extras: blinds, the inside of the oven, the inside of the fridge, indoor windows or the sliding door tracks. Spreading them across the year keeps the whole home on track without a single long visit. See add-ons and extras.
Florida Factors That Shorten the Interval
Homes in Sarasota and Manatee counties deal with a few things that speed up buildup in the areas regular visits don’t reach:
- Sand collects in sliding door tracks and under furniture near the entry.
- Humidity encourages mildew in grout and shower corners.
- Air conditioning runs most of the year, moving dust onto blinds and vent covers.
- Pollen season adds a film to sills and blinds.
If you live near the beach or keep the doors open a lot, lean toward the shorter end of the ranges above. For planning around the seasons, see planning cleaning around Sarasota’s seasons.

How to Plan It
- Start with a deep clean if the home hasn’t had one recently. See whether you need one before starting recurring service.
- Choose a regular schedule that fits how the home is used. See recurring cleaning.
- Mark one or two deep cleans on the calendar, or plan add-ons across the year.
- Adjust when life changes: a new pet, guests for the season, or a move.
