How to Prepare Your Home Before the Cleaners Arrive

You don’t need to clean before the cleaners come. Preparing is about clearing the way so the team spends its time cleaning, can get in easily, and knows what matters most to you. These steps take about fifteen minutes.

1. Pick Up Clutter

Clear toys, clothes, papers, mail and boxes from floors, counters and furniture. The team cleans surfaces; they can’t clean what is covered, and time spent moving piles is time not spent cleaning. Focus on counters, bathroom vanities, bedroom floors and tables.

2. Put Away Valuables and Private Items

Put jewelry, cash, medications, paperwork and anything fragile or sentimental in one drawer or closet. Our cleaners are background-checked and sign NDAs, but a set-aside spot keeps things simple and lets the team work freely.

3. Sort Out Access

You don’t need to be home. Leave a key, door or garage code, gate pass or lockbox details, and tell us about alarms. In a condo, let us know about building access, elevators and parking. If we can’t get in, the full price may be charged, so double-check codes before the day.

4. Tell Us Your Priorities

Name the two or three things that matter most, such as the guest bathroom or the kitchen before a gathering, and anything to skip. Be specific: “shower glass and grout in the main bathroom” is easier to act on than “the bathroom.”

5. Know What You Booked

A standard clean follows our room-by-room checklist. A deep clean adds blinds, sliding door tracks, the inside of the oven and fridge, cabinets inside and out, doors, behind movable furniture and steam-cleaned tile floors. Anything else, such as indoor windows or linens, is an add-on. See the cleaning checklist and add-ons.

6. Clear the Kitchen Sink

Put dishes in the dishwasher or away so the sink and counters can be cleaned. If you’d like the team to do the dishes, add it when you book.

7. Empty the Bathroom Counters

Move toiletries into a drawer or basket so vanities and shower ledges can be wiped down fully.

8. Settle Pets

Keep pets somewhere safe and comfortable while we clean, and let us know about any that will be loose in the home.

9. Leave Notes for Special Surfaces

Point out natural stone, delicate finishes or anything that needs a particular product. We bring all supplies, with eco-friendly products on request, and if you prefer a specific product for a surface, leave it out with a note.

10. Arrange Payment

Arrange your payment method at setup, or leave cash or a check.

For Recurring Service

The same steps apply, but they get quicker. Once the team knows your home and your priorities, a quick pick-up before each visit is usually all it takes. To reschedule, give at least 24 hours’ notice.

For Rentals and Second Homes

If you won’t be there, leave entry details and any owner-supplied linens where the team can find them. For guest turnovers, see vacation rental cleaning.
